Clinical Depression and Anxiety are different conditions, but can commonly be confused with one another. They also commonly occur together. Everyone struggles with depression and anxiety from time to time. But ongoing and persistent depression and anxiety can be indicative of the need for mental health treatment.

Clinical depression will many times present as low energy or affect (sadness or blah feeling) and include symptoms such as loss of interest in activities (no or limited joy), changes in sleep patterns and/or appetite, concentration difficulties and sometimes suicidal thoughts or urges. Clinical Anxiety may present as higher energy or affect and include symptoms such as excessive worry, feeling restless or on edge, irritability and muscle tension and sleep disturbances.  If you or anyone you know is experiencing any of the above symptoms, or any symptoms that are concerning to you, it may be more than your everyday “ups and downs.” Talking to someone and referring to a mental health professional is important. Awareness is the first step.
